THIS YEAR’S 24 HOUR THEATER FESTIVAL IS DEDICATED TO OUR DEAR FRIEND, KEVIN SHENK.
THE PROVINCETOWN THEATER’S PLAYWRIGHTS’ LAB
6th ANNUAL 24 HOUR THEATER FESTIVAL
JANUARY 29 & 30, 2016
CALLING ALL PLAYWRIGHTS, ACTORS, & DIRECTORS!
The Provincetown Theater’s Playwrights’ Lab will stage its 6th Annual 24 Hour Theater Festival at the Provincetown Theater on Saturday, January 30th, 2016. In the great tradition of this immensely popular community event, a gathering of playwrights, actors and directors will convene at the theater on Friday, Jan. 29th at 5pm. From the pick of names out of a hat, seven playwrights will select their seven directors, and then the directors will select their casts (approximately 4 actors maximum will be chosen for each play). One of the favorite parts of the Festival happens next: the Co-Chairs, Dian Hamilton and Stuard M. Derrick, will reveal the three props that must be incorporated into every play; the props are traditionally a closely guarded secret and the inventiveness of the playwrights will be put to the test! Playwrights will then repair to their places of inspiration to construct ten-minute plays due no later than7:00am, Saturday morning. That night, the seven ten-minute plays will be mounted as script-in-hand performances for a perennially sold-out show.
What you need to know:
1. Send in your choice of discipline: Playwright, Director, or Actor, as soon as possible to the 24 Hour Theater Festival Co-Chairs, Stuard M. Derrick at email@example.com and Dian Hamilton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year, there will be a maximum of seven ten-minute plays of no more than ten pages of text (not including a title page), double-spaced with 12-point type per play with a maximum of four actors per play with 28 actors total. In the event of a surplus of participants in any category, a lottery will be utilized.
2. Playwrights, directors, and actors MUST be physically present and commit to being available from 5pm Friday evening January 29th through the taking of their much-deserved ovations at the end of the following evening, Saturday January 30th. This year, the co-chairs are investigating having a local guest house or inn provide discounted accommodations for overnight participants who are travelling from outside Provincetown and wish to spend the night in town.
3. Please contact Stuard or Dian by e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for joining us in this wonderful theatrical adventure. Break a leg!
