New Musical Theater Workshop: Sybil

The Provincetown Theater is proud to announce its First Annual New Musical Theater Workshop, a new program developed by Alan Cancelino to give emerging professional musical theater writers an opportunity to workshop and present new works, bridging Broadway talent to the local Provincetown arts community.

The inaugural musical selected is “Sybil”, based on the 1973 book by Flora Reba Schreiber documenting exploration into multiple personality disorder, with music by Alan Cancelino (“The White Rose” and “Bingo City”), book and lyrics by Owen Robertson (“Saving Anne”), direction by award winning director/choreographer Stephen Nachamie (SDC), and development by Lifetime Networks “Sybil” movie producer Norman Stephens. Cancelino and Robertson are alums of the famed BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in NYC in which shows like A Chorus Line, Avenue Q, Next to Normal and many others were developed. Their works have been produced at NYMF, Goodspeed, The Public Theater, Theatre Row, The York, The Laurie Beechman, Off Broadway and regionally in London and Montreal.

Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards nominated Broadway star of Bonnie and Clyde, Melissa Van der Schyff, stars as Sybil in a concert reading following a one week Equity workshop. Featuring Tony nominated and Emmy Award winning  Broadway actress Liz Callaway ( Merrily We Roll Along, Miss Saigon, and Baby) as Dr. Wilbur. Contains adult themes. Not for children under 16.
