THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF….

By Kathleen WarnockKathleen Warnock

Further Adventures of

Seen in New York City, Provincetown, Dublin, Ireland and other parts of the world, THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF….” tells the story of Maggie Day,  young girl who grows up to be a writer (and a lesbian), and her quest to track down the true story of her favorite childhood TV series, “Atlantis, One Million Years B.C..” As she uncovers the layers, Maggie learns about the secret gay history of Hollywood, and the compromises queer artists made to keep their careers…and how their choices changed them, and in some cases destroyed them. The play is a funny but serious look at how queers identify themselves via pop culture. TICKETS

BABY MAMA: ONE WOMAN’S QUEST TO GIVE HER CHILD TO GAY PEOPLE

by Mariah MacCarthy

Baby Mama tracks one birth mother’s true adoption journey, from conception to placement with the gay couple of her dreams–while still living her life, dating, and attending the occasional orgy. From adoption agencies to (ahem) discharge, from burlesque to good-byes, this up-close-and-personal night of storytelling is everything about those ten months you ever wanted to know (and probably plenty that you didn’t). Bring hankies. TICKETS

ROSETTA

by Candyce Rusk, a musical theater workshop

Had I seen the now-accessible photo of Sister Rosetta Tharpe masterfully playing her Gibson L5 guitar when I was 10, my life might have taken a different turn. Knowing too, that an African American woman in her mid 40s was a primary influence on the young musicians of the British Invasion (Yardbirds, Beatles, Rolling Stones) would have fixed my star in a deeper firmament. No matter, several decades later, inspired by Gayle Wald’s excellent biography Shout, Sister, Shout! The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the musical Rosetta is well underway. In this early stage of development, you’ll hear just a touch of the solid gospel songs that made Rosetta and partner Marie Knight famous in the 40s-50s. Instead, the music coming into being in collaboration with musician/arranger Craig Toungate, is spun from the more hidden aspects of Rosetta’s life, including her intimate relationship with Marie. I hope you enjoy the bones you hear/witness tonight, that which will form the full musical, Rosetta.
