Casa Valentina Auditions

On February 11 and 12, the Provincetown Theater will hold open auditions for non-union actors at their playhouse at 238 Bradford Street in Provincetown, MA for a slated spring production of Harvey Fierstein’s 2014 Tony-nominated play Casa Valentina.

Inspired by the true story of a mid-century sanctuary in the Catskills for men who dressed as women, Casa Valentina follows a group of men who’ve gathered for a solitary weekend at the mountain resort in the summer of 1962.

To be directed by Provincetown Theater Artistic Director David Drake, all actors cast in Casa Valentina will be paid an honorarium of $500 for their participation in the production. Rehearsals would begin April 1 for a five-week rehearsal period to be scheduled around actors’ availability; anticipate evening and weekend rehearsals. Casa Valentina would perform weekends, May 11-28.

Saturday, February 11 from 1-5pm

Sunday, February 12 from 1-5pm

With a sign-up sheet in the theater’s lobby, actors be seen on a first come/first serve basis. Sides from the script will be available at the auditions, as well as at the Provincetown Theater during weekday business hours now thru the audition dates. Non-union actors only. No drag is required at auditions.

Rita – female, 40s-50s. A resigned, determined but worn earth mother. Married to George, her love of the girls barely covers her inner sadness.

Albert/Bessie – male, 50s. Willy Loman by day, Ethel Mertz by night. Quick-witted, friendly. Unaffectedly feminine. (Appears in drag only.)

Isadore/Charlotte – male, 50s. The ultimate WASP. A button-down, strict disciplinarian. Not your favorite aunt. (Appears in drag only.)

Michael/Gloria – male, 30s. A very handsome and sexually-charged chap who is accustomed to compliments, whether dressed as a male or a female. (Appears in drag only.)

Theodore/Terry – male, 60s. Sweet, gentle and slightly silly, like a favorite auntie. (Appears in drag only.)

The Judge/Amy – male, 70. Large, distinguished, powerful, imposing. Presents as a clunky sort of Tugboat Annie woman. (Appears in and out of drag.)
