Silent No More!
On Thursday, October 24th, we’re thrilled to open our doors to the Provincetown Film Society to host a fundraiser for The Trevor Project with a very special screening of the earliest surviving film about LGBTQ lives, Different from the Others.
Filmed in 1919, its 100th anniversary screening in last summer’s Provincetown Film Festival was completely sold-out. With original live music accompaniment from Billy Hough and Sue Goldberg, come see the silent movie everyone was talking about.
Once feared lost, Different from the Others is believed to be the only gay-themed movie from Germany’s progressive Weimar era that survived destruction after Hitler took power. The film tells a compelling story of secrecy and oppression that continues to play out in today’s world. Different from the Others stars Conrad Veidt (the somnambulist in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Colonel Strasser in Casablanca) as Paul Körner, a violinist whose romance with a talented male student is thwarted when a blackmailer threatens to expose the relationship and Körner’s homosexuality — then a crime under Germany’s notorious Paragraph 175.
For the benefit screening on Oct 24th, admission is $35 and includes:
- Complimentary wine reception starting at 6:00pm.
- Screening and live accompaniment performance at 7:30 pm with Billy and Sue
- Q&A, raffle, and extra set of songs with Billy and Sue to follow
Tickets for this screening of a unique piece of cinematic buried-treasure, as well as helping to support LGBTQ kids at The Trevor Project, can be purchased at:
Sign up @ 6:30 pm……. Slam it @ 7 pm.

Provincetown Theater September 12th thru 22th
On Thursday, September 12th the acclaimed South African theater artists Fred Abrahamse & Marcel Meyer return to our stage in their hauntingly erotic interpretation of the timeless love story The Lady Aoi – for 8 performances only! As Outer Cape audiences may know, this dynamic duo has been creating fresh approaches to classics in the annual Tennessee Williams Theater Festival for quite a few years – and 2019 will be no exception. In a creative co-producing partnership with TWTF (a first for Provincetown Theater! ) we are hosting Abrahamse & Meyer for the entire month of September, so that they may delve deeper into this year’s festival theme, ‘Tennessee Williams and Yukio Mishima’. Making theatrical magic out of the East-Meets-West world, Mishima’s The Lady Aoi is the first step on this path that also includes their production of the Night of the Iguana, September 26-29.
