Winter Play Dates
Founded in 2019, the Winter Play Dates is an annual celebration of modern American playwrights and incubator for new works.
This workshop series runs during February and March and features a select group of invited playwrights to work with local actors and directors to stage free readings of their new works for the public. Readings are followed by talkbacks with the audience.
Our goal with WPD is to support and develop new work by writers locally and nationally. Participating new works that received development in the WPD series include Sarah Schulman’s The Lady Hamlet and Jon Richardson’s musical The Jack of Hearts Club. Subsequently both received their world premiere productions at the Provincetown Theater.
Our 2026 series included readings from 2025 Gala Honorees Melinda Lopez and John Cariani and local musician Brian Calhoon.
