Youth Programming
The Provincetown Theater’s Youth Program provides arts-focused enrichment for children/young teens on the Outer Cape.
Launched in April 2025, the core offering of the program is week-long workshops for students ages 8-14 that foster creativity, confidence, and exploration while also creating community with peers and local theater professionals. Workshops are offered three times a year to coordinate with Massachusetts public school breaks in February and April as well as during Provincetown’s annual Family Week at the end of July/beginning of August. Participating students are immersed in all aspects of theatre production, from creative design to performance. Over the course of each week-long program, students develop their acting and communication skills in addition to exploring behind-the-scenes roles in costume, scenic, lighting, and prop design, the result of which culminates with an informal sharing for students’ families and friends, offering students a chance to celebrate what they have created together.
Our ethos for our youth program is guided by the following principles:
- Access to Year-Round Creative Enrichment: Offer high-quality, accessible theater programming for children in Provincetown and the Outer Cape, fostering an appreciation for the arts and creative expression.
- Social Skills and Teamwork: Promote collaboration and cooperation by encouraging teamwork in group performances, rehearsals, and the design and production of set, costumes, and props.
- Cultural Engagement: Strengthen the cultural fabric of Provincetown and the Outer Cape by cultivating a new generation of young performers, artists, and community members.
- Life Skills Development: Equip children with valuable skills that extend beyond theater, including leadership, problem-solving, public speaking, and resilience, skills which are crucial for future academic and personal success.
- Diverse and Equitable Access: Ensure that the program is inclusive, accessible, and intentionally designed for children of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. Need-based scholarships ensure that no participant is turned away due to financial constraints.
Led by teaching artists Marissa Miller and Cody Sullivan, this five-day camp leads participants through creating characters, building short scenes, and discovering theater as a team-based art form. Participants end the week with an invited performance for family and friends to celebrate bold choices and the joy of theater.
