In 2020, thanks to a generous donation from The Honorable Maria Lopez, we created the Stephen Mindich Literary Project in honor of her late husband, the trail-blazing newspaper publisher and founder of The Boston Phoenix.
While the project also encompasses our Winter Play Dates reading series and our annual rendition of The 24 Hour Plays, the centerpiece of the Project is the Paula Vogel Playwright Residency, established in 2019. The Residency provides a mini-fellowship to a promising young playwright, usually from a traditionally underserved population. Along with travel accommodations, the playwright is provided a stipend and housing in order to spend time developing new work. While in residence, the playwright will have the opportunity to engage with the local community through one or more public appearances at the Theater.
Our inaugural residency was awarded to Miranda Rose Hall, writer of Plot Points in Our Sexual Development and Best Lesbian Erotica 1995.
Regrettably, there was no residency in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
